Sieving and divisibility: low threshold, high ceiling activities for school mathematics

Speaker:

Prof. Sankaran Viswanath, IMSc., Chennai

Abstract:

In this talk, speaker will describe some activities for mathematics classrooms that are inspired by questions from school teachers. These involve themes around prime numbers, divisibility, rationals and irrationals. While readily accessible to students at the middle and high school levels, these also lend themselves to more in-depth explorations.

About Speaker:

Prof. S. Viswanath is a mathematician at IMSc Chennai with research interests in Representation Theory & Algebraic Combinatorics. He is also a Regional Co-ordinator of “Vigyan Prabha” program at IMSc. He along with the outreach team organises regular workshops for teachers and students of schools / colleges in Tamil Nadu.
