Topic: Exploring the notion of merit in the context of NEET in Tamil Nadu

Abstract: National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is the all-India level entrance exam for medical courses. The proposed study aims to explore the notion of merit and how it is operationalized in the context of the NEET in Tamil Nadu. Foregrounding the educational experiences of students who are preparing for the NEET, the study seeks to inquire into what the exam system tests for as well as its impact (physical, mental, and economic) on the students and their families. Other stakeholders within the educational and healthcare system will also be interviewed to make sense of their idea of "good doctors” and the capability or merit of NEET to select for them.
