My journey of research and outreach
Dr. Akshat Singhal
This talk will provide an overview of my research journey, focusing on the exploration of neutron stars through the observation of gravitational waves and the study of their X-ray emissions. The talk will highlight some of the key results in different fields that I have been part of, including the proposed Daksha satellite mission. It will also discuss the demand for easily accessible astronomy resources, which prompted me and my team to co-found a planetarium and observatory at the IIT Kanpur. Throughout my journey, I have acquired skills that could be beneficial in automating certain aspects of outreach and education pipelines in the future. The talk will conclude with a proposal on this front.
Akshat Singhal is a Ph.D. graduate in gravitational wave data analysis from the Gran Sasso Science Institute, and has completed a 2.5-year postdoctoral tenure at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. His research interests are in the study of high-energy astrophysical sources, specifically through the detection of gravitational waves and X-ray emissions. In addition to his research work, he is deeply committed to science outreach and education, which is evident from his co-founding of a planetarium and observatory during his undergraduate days and continued involvement in outreach activities. He was part of 600 scientists who volunteered for Covid awareness programs and contributed to multi-lingual infographics.
