NIUS Chemistry Camp - Exposure to Instrumental Techniques

Chemistry group is conducting an experimental camp in chemistry in collaboration with TIFR Main campus which is focused on both basic and advanced instrumental techniques for investigating different chemical systems and materials of interest. The camp is scheduled from June 3-11, 2024 at HBCSE and TIFR. There will be around 34 students for the camp. The sessions at HBCSE will be held in Olympiad Building G1, 107, G7 and Chemistry labs.

About the speakers:

Ankush is a Faculty Member and Adithi is a Scientific Officer at HBCSE, TIFR, Mumbai. Both have a strong interest in environment education with particular focus on waste management issues and outdoor (nature based) laboratories.

Abstract:

The session will provide brief history and overview of HBCSE's waste management journey over the last 5 years. We will describe the various collection and management systems currently in place on campus. Some common dilemmas faced by members with respect to waste management will be discussed, with emphasis on mixed waste, laboratory waste, e-waste and paper waste. Being a science education institution and taking a commitment to respecting safety and dignity of all, we seek your sincere cooperation in implementing an effective solid waste disposal system at HBCSE. Lastly, speakers will be happy to address any questions or concerns you may have regarding our practices.
