Job Description:
The astronomy group at HBCSE is presently coordinating multiple prestigious projects as described below:
(A) IAU OAE Center India: The International Astronomical Union’s (IAU) Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE) operates through a global network of centres and nodes. The Indian Center for OAE is hosted by HBCSE and it aims to improve the teaching and learning of astronomy at middle school and high school levels through education research, material development as well as teacher training programmes.
(B) Astronomy Olympiad: This project is a talent nurture programme for high school students (grades 10-12) with a final aim of training and selection of the Indian team for the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA). There are teacher training components also associated with this project.
(C) Astronomy NIUS: This project is aimed at UG-level students and teachers to expose them to advanced topics and techniques in Astrophysics and initiate them towards proto-research.
(D) Material Development, Teacher Training, and Outreach: Astronomy group at HBCSE is also engaged with multiple other HBCSE projects. We help develop learning modules for the Vigyan Pratibha project, which is aimed at the high school level, participate in teacher training and field trials of these modules. We develop and translate in Indian languages print as well as e-materials related to astronomy. We are intimately involved in the “Anandi Newsletter project”, which is a regional language (Marathi) newsletter for school students in the remote corners of the state. Further, we regularly conduct outreach activities like lectures and telescope viewing sessions for schools as well as the general public.
The selected candidate is expected to take a leading role in projects (A) and (B), as well as shoulder important responsibilities in projects (C) and (D) under the guidance of the designated faculty in charge.
(a) Full time Master’s degree in Science (from a recognized University/Institute with aggregate of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA) in Physics / Applied Physics / Astrophysics / Electronics / Computer Science or other equivalent subjects.
OR
(a) Full time Degree in Engineering (B.E. / B. Tech) (from a recognized University/Institute with aggregate of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in Computer / Electronics / Mechanical / Electrical / Aeronautical Engineering / Engineering Physics or other equivalent subjects.
Minimum 1 year post-qualification [as mentioned in point (a)] work in teaching / research / science outreach.
(a) Strong background in Astrophysics (as demonstrated through academic projects and/or work experience)
(b) Knowledge of Linux Operating System, Python / FORTRAN, and LaTeX

The desired candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of innovative theoretical and/or experimental tasks suitable for Physics Olympiads, evaluation of Olympiad level exams, and teaching and training of Olympiad students. In addition, the candidate shall be responsible for coordination and organisation of student and teacher workshops at the undergraduate level in Physics, under the NIUS programme of HBCSE. Over time, the candidate is expected to contribute to all academic programmes in the domain of Physics that HBCSE engages in.
(a) Full time Science Graduate i.e. B.Sc. from a recognized University/Institute with an aggregate of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in Physics / Applied Physics.
(b) Knowledge of use of personal computers and its applications
Fresh graduates, without any work experience, may also apply.
(a) M.Sc. in Physics / Applied Physics.
(b) Experience or strong interest in developing either theoretical physics problems or physics experiments at the higher secondary and undergraduate levels.
(c) Working knowledge of programming, preferably in python, for scientific analysis, simulation, or interfacing of experiments, along with exposure to AI-assisted tools for the same.
(d) Familiarity with sensors, basic electronics, measurement techniques, data acquisition, calibration, and error/uncertainty analysis.
(e) Good communication skills, ability to work in a team, careful documentation habits

1. To contribute towards the development of educational content in physics and related areas, and field testing them as part of teacher training programs and classroom implementation. (The work requires strong academic competence, the ability to interact with teachers and students in different schools and colleges.)

(d) Good proficiency in the English language and writing skills in English and/or any other Indian language.
(e) Proficiency in programming languages like python, javascript etc.
(f) Experience developing educational technology for aiding teaching and learning of physics.
(g) Familiarity with physics education research and discipline based education research in general.

The desired candidate will be expected to perform the following duties.
1) Oversee day-to-day security operations at HBCSE including control of entry/exit, visitor management, ensuring authorized personnel access to premises, monitor Security Systems and Fire controls.
2) Implementation of security contract and management of security staff which includes assigning duties, ensure discipline, conduct regular briefings and training for efficient response to emergencies.
3) Conducting enquiries, recording statements, collecting intelligence, submission of reports, rendering assistance to employees in case of emergency.
4) Responsible for maintenance of HBCSE vehicles and implementation of Transport Contract and Cosmetic (Campus Premises Maintenance) Contract.
5) To be responsible for organizing Republic Day and Independence Day events.
6) May be required to work to work in round the clock shifts. Any other tasks assigned by management as and when required for the Centre.
7) The individual will be expected to maintain physical standards as per requirements of the job profile during the period of the employment.
(a) Graduate from a recognized University/Institute with aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA and with NCC (C) certificate
OR
(a) Graduate from a recognized University/Institute with aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA and with Advanced Civil Defence Course Certificate.
(b) Knowledge of use of personal computers and applications.
(c) 5 years’ experience in Security in Level 5 and above or with equivalent TME (total monthly emolument) and above in a large and reputed organization.
For Ex-Servicemen, Military Service Personnel, CAPF
(a) Graduation from a recognized University/Institute (Graduation Equivalent Certificate from Ministry of Defence is not sufficient).
(b) Knowledge of use of personal computers and applications.
(c) Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) or equivalent in Level 6 and above OR 3 years’ experience as Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) or equivalent in Level 5 and above.
Physical Fitness
• Male : Height not less than 165cms; Chest 80-85 cms
• Weight: corresponding to height and age as per medical standard.
• Eye sight: The minimum vision should be 6/6 and naked eye vision for both eyes should be 6/9, and colour recognition.
• Female : Height not less than 157 cms; Chest [ Not applicable]

Physical Efficiency Test
(a) Running Fitness for male candidates: 100 meters in 16 seconds and 1.6 km in 6.30 minutes for running tests conducted on smooth and straight running tracks. The time will be extended to 8.00 minutes for 1.6 km running test conducted on the Campus (exact venue will be decided later).
Running Fitness for Ex-Servicemen, Military Service Personnel, CAPF and internal candidates above 35 years, Females: 100 meters in 18 secs and 1.6 km in 8.30 minutes for running tests conducted on smooth and straight running tracks. The time will be extended to 10.00 minutes for 1.6 km running test conducted on the Campus (exact venue will be decided later).
(b) Shot put except females (7.26 kgs) 4.5 mts
(c) Chin ups (except females):
Upto 30 years: 08-09 numbers
30-40 years: 05-06 numbers
