Abstract:

This thesis explores the impact of shared screens in a computational game environment on mathematics learning, emotions, and social dynamics in co-located classrooms. Three interconnected studies were conducted. The first study employed a chat application in a village school, revealing the success of a game-based learning approach, with the shared screen identified as a crucial element. The second study involved the design and development of two versions (solo and multiplayer) of an arithmetic game through an iterative design and testing process. The final study implemented these versions in a suburban school, highlighting the shared screen as a vital tool for recording and influencing real-time assessments, fostering student-student interactions, and supporting disciplinary learning. The findings advocate for the thoughtful integration of networked digital tools in educational settings to enhance social, emotional, and disciplinary aspects of learning.
