Navi Mumbai Science Foundation (NMSF) in collaboration with the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education is organizing the "Science Utsav Teachers' Camp 2023" on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 9:15 AM onwards in the NIUS G4, HBCSE, Mumbai. The schedule of the program is available at the link https://badal.hbcse.tifr.res.in/index.php/s/g5mtqgpsc83gpjs.

As part of this program, a memorial lecture in honor of the Late Prof. Chitra Natarajan (Former Dean, HBCSE Faculty) will be delivered by Prof. G. Nagarjuna of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune at 10 AM on the same day.

The details of the lecture are as follows:

Title:

The STEM Habits: Some Indispensable and often Ignored Habits in the STEM Curriculum

Abstract:

The talk would address how certain cultural factors profoundly shape the indispensable capacities/skills that a scientist requires but the curriculum ignores. Our school and college curriculum takes good care of conceptual understanding and problem-solving, as evidenced by the analysis of the diagnostic tests we conduct. There are a set of other abilities that scaffold them, providing a supporting ground, which unfortunately is taken for granted. The talk makes them explicit by bringing the cultural tenets to the foreground, in the form of STEM habits, keeping the content in the background.

About the speaker:

A former Professor and principal investigator of the Gnowledge lab (https://www.gnowledge.org) at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR at Mumbai, is currently a Visiting Faculty at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune (IISER Pune https://www.iiserpune.ac.in). He designs and develops collaborative learning spaces (called studios) where investigative and innovative projects can be performed. He continues the work through Kishore Bharati (https://www.kishorebharati.org), a voluntary organization that works toward authentic education (Asli Talim).

All interested members from HBCSE are invited to the Prof. Chitra Natarajan memorial lecture.
