Title: Extending the CUBE model to schools,
Speaker: Dr. Rutwik Thengodkar,
Abstract:
I will be introducing the CUBE [Collaborative Undergraduate Biology
Education] model in brief. CUBE was initiated in 2012 primarily keeping
undergraduate (college) biology education in mind. Though under-graduate
biology was the main focus, school students have been a part of the
project from its early days. Starting from the “One million Daphniaâ€
project of Adarsh Vidyalaya students (2012) to the recent involvement of
Deonar Colony Municipal School, Govandi, students participate in various
projects: Tree mapping, Daphnia culturing, Mosquito and fruit fly
trapping etc. The talk will cover narratives from these experiences,
moments that excited children as well as the CUBE team. Some case
studies will be presented illustrating the collaborative structure and
design principles of CUBE engagements.
